We finished the Kumano on a sunny, clear day before the rain hit again and as they were so spectacular, the next day, Eliza and I went back to see the Kumano-Nachi Taisha temple and the Nachi waterfall deity.
We stayed in Nachi for the night, a quiet little sleepy fishing town specialising in the killing of really beautiful tuna. Horrible to see the signs around the town about it to be honest. I can never quite adjust to seeing how so many cultures celebrate slaughter of animals and wildlife. We only know of one planet that has life on it, and that’s ours and this is what we do. It doesn’t seem right.
Rant over; back to my update. We wandered through rainy deserted streets, had a lovely spontaneous meal at a local place (the staff were soooooo endearing!) and sailed on a turtle boat to an open air onsen. As you do.
Leaving Nachi, we trained it to Shingu to visit the Shrine there.
